I had the good fortune to grow up in North Idaho at time when Hunter Education was part of the public school curriculum. We lived on the edge of town and nearly every fall afternoon I could be found with an old Stevens bolt-action .410 hunting for grouse. Part of that growing up including the Boy Scout program and becoming an Eagle Scout. Numerous camping trips and outdoor adventures added fuel to the desire to spend time outdoors.
Today I live with my wife in Central Washington where we have a nice little 2-acre place complete with garden space, a barn, a horse or two, some barn kitties and two noses with legs, also known as Beagles. I can see the Cascades from my office window and know that just 15 minutes away I can probably find a mule deer, or an elk or drift a fly down a crystal clear mountain stream.
My passion is the outdoors, especially big-game hunting and fly fishing. We also enjoy shooting, reloading, photography, novice gardening and living as independently as we can. Writing allows me to learn more about the subjects I care about and share a few tidbits of what I’ve learned along the way. Occasionally a story about some adventure may find it’s way through the keyboard and onto your monitor.
As a hunter and shooter I am actively involved in advocating for the rights of hunters and firearms owners. I am a Life Member of both the National Rifle Association and Safari Club International and had the pleasure of serving as the president of SCI-Central Washington Chapter from June 2015 to June 2017.
